No Hope?

Today I have listened the most racist speech delivered by a Head of State in South Africa for at least the last 40 years. Not only were the words openly racist, but there was an unmistakable commitment to doubling down, and intensifies, state-sponsored racism, seemingly without end.

When Ramaphosa shared his memory of racism policies in the mining sector more than 40 years ago, he clearly totally forgot to mentioned that today it is his government that uses laws and policies to excluding another demographic group from equal participation in the economy, namely White South Africans. Every was said form a viewpoint of selective memory, without any regards to the destructive impact of the racist policies on the lives of White South Africans TODAY.

What is also especially insightful, is his instance that all political parties in Cabinet works towards the same policy aims, which is those of the Government of National Unity. That implies that both the DA, as well as the Freedom Front Plus are equally guilty of the state-sponsored racism perpetrated against White South African; just as guilty as the ANC.

That is a depressing thought. The reality is therefore that we, our children and most likely also our grandchildren, will be oppressed in the country of our birth ad inventio, without anyone representing us and striving to end the racial discrimination. Where does it leave us?

The fact that the Constitution allows for, and legalize, racism, does not make it right; it only legitimizes and institutionalize it. It “permanentize” it; which is a further sign of the utter lack of quality and commitment of those that were supposed to protect White interests during the negotiation process of the 1990s.

Unfortunately, the most depressing though of all, is the awareness that, in spite of all of this, the bulk of those blatantly discriminated against, are most likely going to vote for the so-called representatives that are part of the discrimination regime, the vague (and never to be realized) hope that then “at least thing will be a little bit better,” or, even more scary, under the illusion that cooperation will appease the racist government, and they will be able to retain their assets, wealth and positions just a little bit longer.
