The class of '94 has been in power for more than 30 years. They don't learn lessons. what can you expect from a regime that oppresses its own minorities, and call it “positive discrimination”? What can you expect from people that have destroyed a country, and yet steadfastly believe they can do no wrong?

Discrimination in SA has its roots in the Constitution, and its interpretation, and are increasingly not been traced back, or derived from, the balance in opposing worldviews reached during the Codesa negotiated settlement, but in the ideological roots of one side of the historic conflict; that is, to the Freedom Charter, and the National Democratic Revolution. The Constitution is, practically and judicially, read as extensions of revolutionary theory.

The divide in the South African White population about Apartheid and race laws; transformation and redress, is more or less cast in stone. This was actually always the case; with “always”, I mean since Unification of the country in 1910. It’s about worldviews, and the worldviews of most White South Africans are fixed.

My problem with the current academic model is that there is seemingly very little relationship between effort and result. Academics’ performance is not assessed in terms of their ability to get students (learners) ready for the world of work. In the model that QS World University Rankings use to rank universities, only 10% of the assessment weight is allocated to reputation among prospective employers.
